FAQ
What is vinyl lettering?

Vinyl lettering is a type of decal or transfer sticker that is text-only. Uses for vinyl lettering include storefronts, car windows, laptops, or any other smooth surface.

Vinyl lettering is easy to design online with Master Control’s Custom Designer and does not require any additional files. It has 180+ fonts and a baseline of colors.

Your custom lettering is cut from vinyl, placed on a paper backing and covered with removable transfer tape. The tape keeps all the pieces in place for easy and accurate application.

Do you sell custom vinyl lettering?

Yes, our custom vinyl lettering is an easy way to create type and numbers with no artwork required.

To order vinyl lettering, type a message and select a font, color and size. Order as few as 1 or as many as 10,000. Free shipping with $75 minimum.

The included transfer tape holds your lettering together so that it’s easy to apply to any smooth surface. Remove the backing and apply it by rubbing firmly over each letter. Then slowly pull the transfer tape off to reveal your design.

How do I install the lettering?

To apply a vinyl lettering, remove it from the paper backing by peeling away the transfer tape. The tape will hold the individual pieces of your vinyl lettering design in place while you position it on your desired surface. Once your sticker is positioned correctly you can press the transfer tape onto a surface to adhere it. Next use a credit card to apply pressure to the entire design to make sure it’s fully adhered. Finally, slowly peel the transfer tape away at a 180 degree angle to leave the sticker adhered.

If your design is especially delicate, let it sit for 24 hours before removing the transfer tape. This gives your sticker time to adhere more strongly to the surface and makes it easier to remove the tape while leaving the design intact.

STEPS TO APPLY VINYL LETTERING

STEP 1 – Clean the area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or soap and water. Do not use a glass cleaner because it will leave a residue behind that will prevent the sticker from adhering well.
STEP 2 -Prepare the vinyl lettering – Rub a squeegee or credit card firmly across the vinyl lettering through the clear transfer tape to prepare it for application. This ensures the vinyl lettering will cling to the transfer tape and removes any air bubbles that may have formed.
STEP 3 – Peel the sticker backing – Peel the white paper backing off the vinyl lettering. If the vinyl lettering clings to the backing, slowly replace the paper backing and repeat
STEP 4 – Apply the vinyl lettering – Slowly lower the vinyl lettering onto the surface and rub it in place firmly with a squeegee or credit card. For best results, wait 24 hours before moving to the next step.
STEP 5 – Peel the transfer tape – Slowly peel the clear transfer tape off at an angle. Be careful not to pull the vinyl lettering off the surface. If vinyl lettering pulls away from the surface repeat Step 4.

How thick is the vinyl used?

Keep in mind, the term mil is not short for millimeter. Mil is form of measurement commonly used in manufacturing to specify thickness. It’s equivalent to 1/1000 of an inch. The vinyl used for vinyl lettering is 3.4 mil (86 microns) thick.

What is the turnaround time?

The turnaround time for your average sign varies based on your specific needs. We keep all the major materials in stock because we understand our clients needs are sometimes more urgent and we need to have everything in place and ready to go. That’s how we’re able to crank out a job with a very short notice. We also try to work with suppliers that are close and/or deliver next day, so we can get the rush jobs done if we need to.

For most jobs, the normal production time is 4 business days, which is 2-3 days from the proof approval for most orders. Larger orders can take longer, and there are a few products we offer that have longer production times. Rush service is available for most products that reduces the production time to 2 days, and a 1 day rush is also available for many items.

Even if you don’t need a rush or faster shipping and the estimated delivery date is in plenty of time for your deadline, it’s beneficial for us to know your due date in case anything goes wrong with your order that will cause a delay. Because the estimated delivery date shown is not a guarantee, if you have not specified a due date and a delay occurs, we won’t know to contact you to make arrangements for different shipping methods, etc.

Orders for display hardware without printing that is in stock will often ship the same day or the next day if ordered by 2pm Central Time. This is dependent on the product ordered and some products are manufactured to order and take 1 or 2 days to ship. Some trade show displays are custom built and can take even longer, so check in the product description for this information, or look at the estimated delivery date during checkout to see when to expect your order to arrive.

How large can you actually print?

The minimum height requirement for vinyl lettering is 2″ and the maximum height is 12″ and width is 42″. However anything larger than 12″ X 24″ will have to be on multiple sheets. Based on the font and length of characters, the height will automatically be adjusted accordingly to meet our vinyl lettering requirements.
